This piece uses two very classic Holiday tunes, Away in a Manger and The First Noel, hence the title, Away Noel. This was one of 2 pieces I arranged for the Booneville Advanced band during my senior year of high school. In the piece, I mash the two themes together and use some contrapuntal writing to move the piece forward. It is a little more advanced than normal, at a grade level suitable for an advanced junior high band or a small high school band. The piece does feature a French Horn solo at the beginning, however I have doubled it with the sax and trumpet just in case.
