Dream Land is a poem by the 19th century poet Christina Rossetti. The poem describes a woman falling asleep and it describes her dreams. I set only the 1st stanza to music, as I needed a fairly short SATB + Piano work with this same idea. The choir and the piano hardly ever play at the same time - the piano is used more as a device to introduce interludes into the piece and connect the choral sections together. Harmonically speaking, the piece starts in Eb and modulates up an entire tritone, the furthest key away from the tonic. The piece is not too difficult for the choir nor the piano despite the modulation, suitable for around a decent high-school level choir.
