Largo was originally part of a larger work which was going to be my Piano Quartet No. 1. The first two movements (this was the second) were composed in 2019 when I was a junior in high school, and the third movement was composed in 2021. After some debate, I have decided to only offer the Largo as a separate work, as it holds a special place in my heart. It is noticeably very dark from the opening bars, which is reminiscent of the time that I composed it - I was first experimenting with darker chromatic music, which seemingly came to me naturally. This is not to say that I was dark on the inside - I was merely exploring this sound world and was happy with the results. It is in an ABA structure, with the A sections being this dark music and the B section
being more tonal and bright. Upon hearing this for the first time back in 2019, my father said that this reminded him of the grief of losing a pet dog or cat, etc. Make of that what you will.
