This project was originally taken very seriously – the main melodic material is from my senior year of high school, written as a dance tune as part of a larger work. I decided to use this little tune to develop a Landler, a dance in 3/4 time that pre-dated the Waltz. In its day, it was seen as the more mature and higher dance, but here I decided to change that entirely. At first, I wanted this piece to be very serious, taking the melody to multiple different places and stretching every musical element that exists in this piece. However, around half-way through composing it, I had a listen to what I had written, and I was just sitting in my chair dancing along. I then had an epiphany – this is not serious music! This is a dance! So I treated it as such from then on, making it more exciting and boiling up to a cute little climactic ending to cap it off. There are definitely spots where I could develop the melody more, maybe make things more serious sounding. But I was just writing for fun! We are allowed to have a little fun once and awhile, and I hope people that listen to this have as much fun as I had composing it! Do not take this piece too seriously – enjoy it for what it is!
