The Arizona Wind Symphony put out a call for scores for their 2023-24 season, and so I wrote this piece. It is about a story that I found online of a person that has been slowly transforming the Arizona landscape from a desert to more of a tropical environment. This is done by introducing water streams, which slowly allow the ground to grow plants. And so in the piece, we start with these very dry sounds that build up to a peak, showing the immense grandiosity of the landscape. Then we can see when the water is introduced, and I imagine at first it would just create a lot of mud, and so that is how we start. But then the mud slowly drifts away and what is left is a beautiful landscape that slowly sprouts.
