This composition is very heroic. I wanted to depict justice, but I also wanted it to be an overture. I have always loved overtures. They really provide an interesting contrast, with the A theme, the contrasting B theme, and the original A theme again. For the A theme, I went for a very heroic style. Trumpets and flutes get the melody, which is then passed to the woodwinds. Then I decided to incorporate a percussion ostinato, something I have never done before in my music. Then I stated the melody again, which transitions nicely into the B section of the overture. For this section, I really tried to bring out my inner Whitacre, connecting the lines and overlaying the melodies to a big point. Then I restated the A melody, but this time in the low instruments, and then the piece finishes off with a brass and woodwind melody, with a fairly nice finisher.
