At the Cathedral of St Andrews in Little Rock, we in the choir hold the annual Spaghetti Serenade. In 2023, the theme of the serenade was Halloween, and so I asked the music director if I could write a small art song for myself to perform, and he immediately welcomed the suggestion. From this, this piece was born. The piano part is noticeably more difficult than the singer, mainly because of the evermore chromatic harmonies and the fast runs that I have the pianist do. Other than this, the piece is fairly straightforward, with text from Mary Elizabeth Coleridge.
